Ñ The mail file icon will remain now at its current position within the 'mail' folder after an update.
Ñ PC files converted to the Macintosh by PC Exchange have a filetype of 'TEXT'. Whatever their suffix, be it '.txt' or '.exe'. Sending such an '.exe' file did not pass through the BinHex encode cycle. All files that have the creator 'dosa' and thus are created by PC Exchange are now send in BinHex format.
Ñ While IM/Mac now never sends '.exe' files in the clear, it still is possible that such files are sent by other people. A characteristic of such a file is that lines can be longer than 256 characters. This did screw up IM/Mac while scanning the mail file header lines.
Ñ A dialog box now asks before 'Revert'ing to a previous saved version of a message.
Ñ The availability of FSpExchangeFiles not only depends on the version of the system software but also on the capabilities of the volume. To keep the functionality of an eventual alias for the mail file, updating the mail file uses the ToolBox call 'FSpExchangeFiles'. IM/Mac now considers the capabilities of the volume on which the mail file is present. A consequence of this oversight was that updating a mail file didn't work on 400k floppies!
Ñ IM/Mac cannot be used from non-HFS volumes. Instead of a crash, a descent message is given now.
Ñ The 'alias' file (or an alias to it) has to be in the same folder as IM/Mac is, but the 'spool' folder can be somewhere else.
Ñ You can put the mail and mqueue files on a 400k diskette. IM/Mac itself cannot start from 400k floppies.
